Autonomic
Is the Pupillary Light reflex, somatic or autonomic?
Pupils Constrict
What is the normal response to the Pupillary light reflex?
Autonomic
Is the Oculocardiac reflex, somatic or autonomic?
Slows heart rate down
What is the normal response to the oculocardiac reflex?
Autonomic
Is the Ciliospinal reflex Autonomic or somatic?
Pupils Dilate
What is the normal response of the ciliospinal reflex?
Somatic
Is the Patellar reflex, somatic or autonomic?
Extension at knee
What is the normal response to the patellar reflex?
Somatic
Is the Achilles reflex somatic or autonomic?
Extension at ankle
What is the normal response of the Achilles reflex?
Somatic
Is the Babinski reflex somatic or autonomic?
Plantar flexion (Adult-curls toes)
(Child-Fans Toes)
What is the normal response to the Babinski reflex?
Watch the pupils of your lab partners eyes as you pinch their neck firmly
How would you test the Ciliospinal reflex?
Have your lab partner sit down and close their eyes for one minute. When they open their eyes flash a bright light into them, watch the change in the size of their pupils
How would you test the pupillary light reflex?
Count your partners pulse when they are sitting
Continue to hold wrist, have them use their fingers to exert firm pressure on their eyeballs and immediately count their pulse.
How would you test the Oculocardiac reflex?
Dilation
Is the Ciliospinal reflex a constriction or dilation?
Constriction
Is the pupillary reflex a constriction or dilation?
II, Optic nerve
Which cranial nerve contains sensory fibers for the pupillary light reflex?
III, Occulomotor
Which cranial nerve contains motor fibers for the pupillary light reflex?
V, Trigeminal
Which Cranial nerve that contains sensory fibers for the oculocardiac reflex?
X, Vagus
Which cranial nerve that contains the motor fibers for the oculocardiac reflex?
Tap the skin over the patellar tendon with a rubber hammer
How would you test the Patellar reflex?
Have the subject stand with one knee on a chair and relax their leg muscles
Hold the foot of the subject, to stretch their gastrocnemius
Tap the skin over the achilles tendon with a rubber hammer
How would you test the Achilles reflex?
Have your subject remove their shoe and sock from their right foot
Take the tip of a rubber mallet and run it on the sole of the foot firmly in an upward movement from heel to arch
How would you test the Babinski reflex?
Negative is normal
Is it normal for an adult to have a positive or negative response to the Babinski reflex?
Child or younger
Who should demonstrate a positive response to the Babinski reflex?
Epineurium
Outside Layer

Perineurium
layer of connective tissue surrounding fascicles within a nerve

Endoneurium
surrounds each nerve fiber (B)

Fascicle
bundle of fibers

Peripheral Nerve
A nerve that branches from a plexus and supplies sensory and motor functions to many areas of the body.

1. stretch both arms to the side and snap the fingers on both hands
2. walk a straight line placing the heel of one foot in front of the toe of the other foot
3. Close your eyes and touch your nose with the index finger of your left hand
4. Close your eyes and touch your nose with the index finger of your right hand
5. While standing, move the heel of your right foot first up and then down the shin of your left leg.
How to test the Cerebellar Function?
