11 Amendment

The United States constitution says that US courts cannot hear cases and make decisions against a state if it is sued by a citizen who lives in another state or a person who lives in another country

21 Amendment

The United States constitution in the section of the bill of rights that prohibits soldiers from temporarily residing in private homes during peace time without getting the permission and consent of the owner

7 Amendment

The United States constitution guarantees that civil cases, or lawsuits based on disagreements between people or businesses, have a right to be decided by a jury in federal court. The amount of the lawsuit must be more than 20$, and after a jury settles the case, it shouldn’t go back to trial again.

20 Amendment

The United States constitution moved the beginning and ending of the terms of the president and vice president form march 4 to January 20, and of members of congress from march 4 to January 3

19 amendment

The United States constitution granted women the right to vote, and reads: “the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation

23 Amendment

The United States constitution allows American citizens residing in the District of Columbia to vote in the electoral college for president and vice president. In laypersons terms, the amendment means that resident of the district are able to vote for president and vice president

6 amendment

The United States constitution guarantees a speedy trial, a fair jury, an attorney if they accused person wants one, and the chance to confront the witnesses who are accusing the defendant of a crime, meaning he or she can see who is making accusations

5 amendment

Imposes restrictions on the government’s prosecution of persons accused of crimes. It prohibits self incrimination and double jeopardy and mandates due process of law.

17 amendment

The United States constitution gave people the right to vote for their senators instead of the state legislature. This is called direct election, where the people choose who is in office. The amendment also said that if a senate seat is not filled, the governor can pick a new senator

22 amendment

The United States constitution ensures that no person can be elected to more than two four year terms as president of the United States. It was passed in reaction to president Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four terms in office

24 amendment

The United States constitution prohibited any poll tax in elections for federal officials

13 amendment

The United States constitution abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime

26 amendment

The United States constitution prohibits the states and the federal government from using age as a reason for denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States who are at least eighteen years old

25 amendment

The United States constitution says that if the president becomes unable to do their job, the vice president becomes president. This can happen for just a little while, if the president is just sick or disabled for a short time

The United States constitution declared the production, transport, and sale of intoxication liquors illegal, though it did not outlaw the actual consumption of alcohol. Repealed in 1933 by twenty first amendment

14 amendment

The United States constitution granted citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States”, and guarantees all citizens “equal protection of the laws.” Which included former slaves that were recently freed

15 amendment

The United States constitution prohibits the federal government and each state from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen’s “race, color, or previous condition of servitude

The United States constitution reads: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
