Pediatric Chain of Survival
A 5-step sequence: 1. Prevention and Safety, 2. Early High-Quality CPR, 3. Early Access (EMS Activation), 4. Early Advanced Life Support, and 5. Integrated Post-Cardiac Arrest Care.

High-Alert Medications (HAMs)
Medications that carry a high risk of causing significant patient harm when used in error, including Insulin, Sodium Bicarbonate, and Atropine Sulfate.
Body Mechanics
The efficient, coordinated, and safe use of the body to move objects and carry out activities of daily living.
Power Lift
A lifting technique where the legs are used as the primary muscles to move a patient.

A technique for gripping a backboard by inserting each hand under the handle with the palm facing up and the thumb extended.

A position where the head of the bed is elevated 30 to 45 degrees and the knees are lower.
Hemiplegia
A condition in which one half (right or left side) of the body is paralyzed.
Minor Fall Injury
An injury characterized by abrasions or bruises treated with dressing, limb elevation, or topical medication.
Infiltration
The leakage of intravenous fluid into surrounding tissues caused by improper placement or dislodgement of a catheter.
Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP)
A measurement obtained by the formula: 3(2×Diastolic BP)+Systolic BP.
Chvostek’s Sign
Facial twitches that serve as a sign of hypocalcemia.
Trousseau’s Sign
Muscle spasms in the hands and feet that serve as a sign of hypocalcemia.
