Relay Race
A track and field event in which athletes run a per-set distance carrying a baton before passing it onto the next runner.
Relay Team
A team of four sprinters.
Standard Relay Distances
The two kinds of relay races for both men and women: 4×100m and 4×400m.
Shot-put
The main throwing event where the player, known as a putter, uses power, flexibility, and speed to throw the shot.
Putter
The specific name for a player who throws the shot in the shot-put event.
Discus Throw (Initial Position)
The skill where the thrower stands in the circle facing back to the throwing direction with feet opened and in a straight line, taking one or two swings.
Discus Throw (Turning)
The skill where body weight shifts from the right foot to the left foot, moving the right foot to the center and the left foot toward the throwing direction.
Discus Throw (Final Phase)
The stage where the thrower's feet rest on the surface, the left leg is straight, the right leg is bent, and the discus is thrown with full force.
Javelin Throw
A throwing event using a smooth surfaced arrow made of metal or wood, requiring speed, power, patience, and balance.
Hammer
An equipment piece made of a solid metallic sphere connected to a single piece of steel wire with a semicircular or triangular metallic handle.
Hammer Throw Foul
A throw that is not within the sector angle and within the sector.
Hammer Throw (Rule 5)
The policy where every thrower gets three chances, after which the best twelve throwers are given 6 more chances each.
Jumping Events
A group of four field events consisting of the Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, and Pole Vault.
Long Jump (Broad Jump)
A track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength, and agility to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point.
High Jump
A major field event where an athlete crosses a jump, requiring activeness and flexibility.
Pole Vault
The only jumping event that uses an apparatus known as a pole to help the athlete cross a cross bar.
