Analogy
a comparison that presents the similarities between two concepts or ideas
Cliché
A word, phrase, or sentence that was once seen as clever but is now outdated.
Connotation
This is the implied or suggested meaning of a word, not its main dictionary definition.
Euphemism
It’s a word or phrase used to highlight harsh or blunt languages, often for delicate topics like sex, death, or violence.
Hyperbole
A gross exaggeration used for effect, usually to be funny or to emphasize something.
Metaphor
It compares two unlike things with similar traits, without using "like" or "as."
Metonymy
A substitute word or phrase closely related to another.
Oxymoron
It’s a combination of two ideas that seem opposite or contradictory.
Paradox
It’s an assertion that seems contradictory or silly but actually reveals a deeper truth.
Personification
It’s a statement where an animal, object, or abstract idea is given human characteristics.
Simile
It compares two unlike things using the words "like" or "as."
