Era of Good Feelings
An era after the war of 1812 (from about 1815-1825) that had strong unity and national purpose amongst citizens and was dominated by 1 party

The case that established judicial review (the court’s power to decide wether something was constitutional or not)
Embargo Act
An act passed in 1807 that prohibited trading with other nations and was supposed to stop britain from impressing sailors (it was eventually repealed in 1809 due to it being very unpopular)
Navigation Acts
War of 1812
a war between britain and the USA which was caused mostly by impressement and trade restrictions, and led to a stalemate and restablished borders with the treaty of ghent
Monroe Doctrine
A policy created by James monroe that stated that european nations can’t have new colonies in the western hemisphere (the us deterred them with their military power)
Missouri Compromise
A compromise that allowed missouri as a slave state and maine as a free state into the union and created the line of 36’30’’ as the line between free and slave states
Mayville Road Veto
When president jackson vetoed a bill connecting Lexington, Kentucky, to Maysville (abt 66mi) on the grounds that it was unconstitutional because the federal government cant fund local projects and that it went against the principle of paying off the national debt
Bank Crisis (Panic of 1819)
an economic recession caused by excessive speculation in land, the collapse of the cotton market, and the tightening of credit by the Second Bank of the United States, leading to mass unemployment and deflation
Nullification- Calhoun (nullification crisis)
Calhoun was a big advocate of states rights and argued that south carolina had the right to nullify the tarriff from the government
Clay’s American System
A policy proposed by henry clay that stated that the US should promote internal manufacturing and was supported by northerners rather than southerners, and although it saw some success with the eerie canal, it eventually stopped after jackson stopped funding the second bank of the US
Populism
The idea that the common people could decide rather than the elite and was also remarked in the US by jacksonian democracy where every white male could vote
