Signal sequences
Short peptide sequences that direct the transport of proteins to their correct location.
Post-translational transport
The transport of proteins that occurs after they have been fully synthesized.
Transmembrane protein
A protein that spans the membrane of a cell or organelle, often involved in signaling or transport.
Golgi apparatus
An organelle that functions in protein sorting, modification, and packaging for transport.
SRP (Signal Recognition Particle)
A protein-RNA complex that directs the ribosome to the endoplasmic reticulum by binding to the ER signal sequence.
Signal peptidase
An enzyme that cleaves signal sequences from proteins during their transport.
Chaperone proteins
Proteins that assist in the folding and transport of other proteins, ensuring they maintain proper structure.
Nuclear localization signal sequence
A sequence that directs proteins to the nucleus, allowing them to pass through nuclear pores.
