What is the fucntion of the circulatory system?
To transport materials through the body to the organs, tissues and cells that need them
Transport materials of circulatory system:
Nutrients and water from intestines to all body cells
Oxygen from lungs to all of body
Hormones from glands to tsrget cells
Waste from all cells to excretory organs
how do all materials enter and leave the blood?
Diffusion
Diffusion definition
Process in which material moves from high to low concentration
Capillaries:
Microscopic blood vessels where diffusion occurs
Heart:
The pump that druves the circulatory system. Veins carry blood to heart while arteries carry blood away from the heart
What do red blood cells carry?
oxygen
What do white blood cells do?
Defend against disease
Hemoglobin:
Protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen
Plasma:
Fluid of the blood that transports all blood cells, nutrients and hormones
Platelets:
Clot the blood by making a protein called fibrin
