The assassination of Archduke France Ferdinand. Germany was shocked and gave a blank check to Austria. Austria believed Serbia planned it so they sent them an ultimatum but Serbia didn’t agree to all of it so Austria declared war.

How did alliances come in after the assassination?

Serbia asks Russia for help because they’re both Pan-Slavism, Russia asks France for help which makes France want revenge on Germany. Germany enacts the Shlieffen Plan and Great Britain declares war on Germany because they’re allies with Belgium.

What were the new technology like?

Machine guns and long artillery range made casualties high, poison gas was very deadly do to skin burning, nerve damage, broken masks, gas going back to you. Tanks, airplanes, and submarines were used to cross space between trenches, spying, and stopping supply ships.
