Name of Erickson, Tomlin, and Swain’s theory
“Modeling-Role Modeling Theory”
Helen Erickson, Evelyn Tomlin, Mary Ann Sawain
Name of the three theorists
Modeling
one of the major concepts, the process the nurse uses as they develop an image and an understanding of their client’s world; the art of modeling is the development of a mirror image of the situation from the client’s perspective; the science of modeling is the aggregation and analysis of data collected about the client’s model
Role-Modeling
one of the major concepts, occurs when the nurse plans and implements interventions that are unique for the client'; starts the second the nurse moves from the analysis phase of the nursing process to planning of nursing interventions.
Nursing
-the facilitator, not an effector; client relationship is an interactive, interpersonal process.
Five aims of nursing
-Affirm and promote client strength
-Promote positive orientation
-Facilitate perceived control
-Set health-directed mutual goals
-Build trust
Person
There are two types; Patient and Client
Patient
is given treatment and instructions
Client
participates in their own core
Health
State of physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease and infirmity
Environment
Not identified in the theory as an entity of its own; social subsystems as the interaction between self and others both cultural and individual; biophysical stressors are seen as part of the environment
