Sales forecast
Meaning: A prediction of future sales.
Example: “I think I will sell 300,000 units next year.”
Budgeted sales
Meaning: What the salesperson is expected/supposed to sell.
Example: If the company sets your target at 300,000 units, your budgeted sales are 300,000 units.
Actual sales
Meaning: What the salesperson really sold.
Example: Your budgeted sales were 300,000, but you actually sold 400,000.
Sales target
Meaning: Sales goal.
Example: Gary’s sales target is 45 cash registers.
Revenue target
Meaning: Dollar sales goal.
Example: Gary’s unit target is 45 units, and each unit sells for $11,000.
So his revenue target is:
45 × $11,000 = $495,000
Total revenue target achieved
Meaning: How much of the dollar sales goal was reached.
Formula:
Actual revenue ÷ Revenue target
Example: Actual revenue = $500,000. Target = $495,000.
$500,000 ÷ $495,000 = 101% of target achieved.
