Content Validity
Occurs when test items sample adequately the competencies tested in the syllabi.
Criterion-Referenced Testing
A testing approach where fairness is ensured by using objectives for the unit as a guide in test construction.
Formative Test
A type of assessment used during instruction, such as a quiz, to monitor student learning.
Summative Test
A type of assessment used at the end of a period, such as a periodic test, to evaluate learning.

Essentialism
A philosophical basis that emphasizes the development of basic skills like reading, writing, and arithmetic, as well as core requirements and challenging textbooks.
Existentialism
A philosophy that views students as unique, free-choosing, and responsible individuals who must decide their own values and accept the consequences of their actions.
Empiricist
A person who believes that man's senses should be trusted as the only way to acquire knowledge.
Constructivism
The philosophy that learning is the process of retrieving prior learning and relating new information to past experiences.
Hedonism
A philosophy that holds that pleasure is the highest good.
Progressivism
A philosophy where education is viewed as a continuous process of experiencing and reorganizing experiences, often involving active interplay with others.
Perennialism
A philosophy focusing on values and curricula that are constant, universal, and have survived the test of time, such as literature, history, and Mathematics.
Reconstructivism
A philosophy that emphasizes identifying and solving social and economic problems and fosters school-community connections geared toward society's needs.
Behaviorist
A person who believes that the learner is the product of his environment and is determined by it.
Semantic Mapping
A technique where a teacher writes a central word on the board and asks students to cluster related information or schema around it.
Hyperbole
A figure of speech involving exaggeration, such as "If you want the moon, I will get it for you."
Galleon Trade
The historical trade (1565-1815) through which the Philippines had extended contact with Mexico.
Matriarchal family
A family structure in which the mother plays the leading role.

An idiomatic expression referring to a special or significant day.

A Filipino idiom meaning duwag (coward).
