Multiple nations are given varying degrees of autonomy under one central state.

Society

A collection of people bound by shared institutions that define how human relations should be conducted.

(Differs in how people define themselves and their relationships).

Ethnicity

Specific attributes and social institutions that make one group of people culturally different from others.

Ascription

The assigning of a particular quality at birth or a quality about oneself that they do not choose.
