Dysthymia
Sometimes referred to as chronic depression, is less severe and has fewer symptoms than major depression. Depression symptoms can linger for a long period of time, often 2 years or longer.

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
A treatment option for depression.
SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors)
A commonly prescribed type of antidepressant that can make brain circuits that use serotonin work better.
SNRIs (Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors)
Affect brain circuits that use both serotonin and norepinephrine and treat depression.
Depression
Feelings of intense sadness--including feeling worthless, helpless, and hopeless--that lasts for many days to weeks and keeps you from functioning normally.
DSM-5 Definition of Depression
Occurs when you have at least 5 of the symptoms (depressed mood, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, impaired concentration, insomnia or hypersomnia, diminished interest or pleasure, recurring thoughts of death or suicide, significant weight loss or weight gain, restlessness or being slowed down) for at least 2 weeks.
Major Depression
Sometimes called clinical depression; feeling depressed most of the time for most days of the week with symptoms present every day for at least 2 weeks.
Teen Depression Risk Factors
Chronic illnesses, Abused and neglected teens, Teen females, family history of depression or mental illness, substance abuse, untreated mental problems, trauma or disruptions at home
