Miscommunication
A failure to communicate clearly, resulting in confusion or misunderstanding between parties.
Feedback
Information, comments, or evaluations given back to someone about their performance, task, or communication effectiveness.
Interpret
To explain, understand, or assign a specific meaning to nonverbal signals, actions, or words.
Perceptual filters
The personal biases, cultural backgrounds, and frameworks through which an individual perceives, decodes, and evaluates incoming information.
Clarify
To make a statement, concept, or situation less ambiguous and easier to understand by providing more explicit details.
Elaborate
To develop or present a theory, policy, or system in further detail; to expand upon a statement.
Engage
To actively participate, involve oneself, or connect with others in a discussion or activity.
Grasp
To deeply comprehend or completely understand a core message, concept, or dynamic.
Chart the course
To plan, outline, or define the future strategy, direction, and implementation steps for a team or project.
Hit a lull
To experience a temporary drop, pause, or decrease in energy, activity, or creative output during an ongoing event.
Put someone on the spot
To force someone into a difficult or uncomfortable position by asking them a direct, challenging, or unexpected question in public.
Weigh in
To give an opinion, perspective, or expert insight during a discussion or before a final decision is made.
Steer back to the matter at hand
To redirect a conversation or meeting back to the main topic or agenda after people have gone off on tangents.
Keep contributions succinct
To ensure that what one says or writes in a meeting remains brief, concise, and clear without unnecessary details.
Call on someone at random
To select a person to speak, answer a question, or start a discussion without any prior pattern, warning, or waiting for volunteers.
Make significant strides
To achieve important, noticeable, or major progress toward a specific goal.
Sound
An adjective describing an argument as valid, logical, and reasonable; based on reliable facts or solid reasoning.
Faulty
An adjective describing reasoning that contains mistakes, flaws, or errors, or is structurally weak or misleading in logic.
Dismiss
To reject an idea, opinion, or argument instantly without giving it proper thought or consideration.
Counter
To speak or act in opposition to an argument; to refute or prove a statement wrong using opposing evidence.
Compelling
Evoking interest, attention, or admiration in a powerfully irresistible way; highly persuasive.
Evaluate
To assess, judge, or determine the validity, quality, or value of an opinion or argument.
Concerning
Causing anxiety, worry, or emotional discomfort; relating to highly sensitive or troubling matters.
Land a job / land a gig
To successfully secure, win, or obtain a job or employment opportunity.
Go above and beyond
To do much more than what is required, expected, or asked of you.
Job hunt
The process of looking for employment or a new career opportunity.
Sift through
To carefully examine a large volume of options, documents, or data in order to select the most matching or useful items.
Job hopping
The practice of changing jobs frequently, moving from one employer to another after short periods.
Good fit for a job
Having the exact balance of technical skills, qualifications, and personality traits that suit an employer's needs.
Get your foot in the door
To secure a low-level position or an initial opportunity in a company or industry that gives you a chance to progress further later.
Jazz up
To make something more interesting, lively, attractive, or appealing.
Game changer
A newly introduced element, idea, or event that significantly changes the existing way of doing or thinking about something.
Authoritative argument
A logical fallacy claiming something must be true because an "authority" figure or expert said so, without looking at actual logical proof.
Slippery slope
A logical fallacy assuming that a relatively small first step will inevitably lead to a chain of negative events, culminating in a major disaster.
Appeal to tradition
A logical fallacy asserting that a policy or action is correct simply because "it has always been done this way."
Personal attack
Demeaning or insulting an opponent's character, traits, or background directly rather than addressing the substance of their actual argument.
False dilemma
A logical fallacy presenting a complex situation as having only two extreme options or outcomes, completely ignoring alternative possibilities.
Strawman argument
Misrepresenting, oversimplifying, or completely twisting someone's actual argument to make it much easier to attack or defeat.
Digital badge
An online data object or secure credential that represents an achievement, containing information used to evaluate an individual's potential.
Precursor
A person or thing that comes before another of the same kind; a forerunner or sign of future developments.
Credential
A qualification, achievement, quality, or piece of documentation from a person's background indicating suitability or capability.
Benchmark
To evaluate, judge, or check something by comparing it with an established standard.
Accredit
To officially recognize, authorize, or sanction an educational institution or program as maintaining essential standards.
Validate / Verify
To check, prove, or confirm the accuracy, truth, validity, or authenticity of professional claims, references, or certificates.
Personal branding
The intentional practice of shaping and promoting public perception of an individual by positioning them as a unique professional or authority.
Dorky
Slang describing something that is socially awkward, uncool, or quirky, yet often endearing.
Gain traction
To gather momentum, popularity, or acceptance; to become progressively more visible or successful over time.
Discoverable
Capable of being encountered, found, or searched out by others, particularly by recruiters looking for talent online.
Scour
To search a place, platform, or document thoroughly and intensely in order to locate a specific item or person.
Miss out / Lose out on opportunities
To fail to experience or secure a favorable circumstance or job prospect due to inaction, fear, or lack of visibility.
Audit
A systematic, expert review or evaluation to find areas for improvement.
Think outside the box
To think imaginatively and from a fresh perspective, using unconventional methods to solve problems.
Craft a headline / Craft your narrative
To carefully create, write, or shape your professional title or personal career story.
Draw from personal experience
To use lessons, skills, or stories acquired through your own life and career history to back up a claim.
Spark discussion
To trigger, stimulate, or initiate an active conversation or debate among a group of people.
Avoid clichés
To intentionally steer clear of overused, unoriginal phrases that lack personal impact.
Review and update
To look over something systematically and make necessary changes or revisions on a recurring basis.
Nuts and bolts
The basic, practical, and essential details or mechanics of how something works or how a task is done.
Switch off
To lose concentration, stop paying attention, or mentally disengage from what someone is saying.
Animosity
Strong hostility, resentment, or ill will between people.
Leverage
To use something to maximum advantage; to utilize existing resources or relationships to achieve a better result.
Synergy
The interaction of two or more teams or organizations to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.
New eyes on something
Fresh, objective perspectives from someone who has not been previously involved in a project.
Move the needle
To generate a noticeable, significant, or measurable reaction or shift in data, performance, or results (e.g., targeting shifts of 15%).
Unpack
To analyze, break down, or examine a complex concept or set of data into smaller, manageable parts.
Ping
To send a quick, brief digital message or notification to someone via chat or email.
Circle back
To return to a previous topic, issue, or discussion partner at a later time to provide updates or make a decision.
Drill down into
To investigate, explore, or look deeply into the fine, specific details of data or a problem.
Bandwidth
The mental, emotional, or physical capacity, time, or resources required to take on a task or project.
On the same page
In complete agreement; having the same understanding, framework, or perspective on a matter.
Wrap up
To bring a meeting, project, or discussion to a functional end or conclusion.
Micromanage
To control every tiny part of an enterprise or monitor employees' work with excessive, unnecessary attention to minor details.
Facilitator
A person who coordinates and oversees a meeting, discussion, or process to improve its flow and efficiency.
Reach out to someone
To contact, message, or get in touch with someone, usually to ask for help or clarification.
Fine-tuning
Making small, precise adjustments to a plan, strategy, or system to achieve the highest possible level of performance.
Standardized
Designed or adjusted to fit a uniform, globally recognized scale or system to make comparison accurate.
Stepping on someone's toes
Overstepping boundaries or duplicating efforts by doing work officially assigned to someone else.
Duplicate efforts
To waste time and resources by doing the exact same work that someone else has already completed.
Work at capacity / Current workload
Having a schedule or energy level that is completely full, leaving no space for additional assignments.
Face-to-face communication
Direct, in-person interaction where communicators can see expressions and body language natively.
Feel the animosity
To vividly perceive or pick up on unspoken tension, hostility, and bad feelings between people in a room.
Critical Thinking
The objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment; considered a vital skill in professions like management consultancy.
Global skills passport
A theoretical concept for a fully integrated global system to showcase and verify verifiable credentials and certifications.
The 2-pizza rule
A meeting technique related to limiting the number of attendees to ensure efficiency.
Corporate Speak
