Who was the Hundred Year fought between? What was it?
The war was fought between the rulers of the kingdom of England and the Kingdom of France, over who would rule large swaths of continental Europe.
What are some causes of the Hundred Year War?
-Disagreements over rights to land, a dispute over the succession to the French throne, and economic conflicts
--> The immediate political cause of the war was a disagreement over who would inherit the French throne after Charles IV of France
What are some consequences of the Hundred Year War?
-Thousands of soldiers and civilians had been slaughtered, as well as thousands of acres of rich farmland had been ruined.
-Disrupted trade (resulting in the drastic reduction of French participation in international commerce)
-Heavy taxation and defeat in battle caused widespread dissatisfaction
-Divide within social order
-Spent over 5 million pounds on the war, leading to a net financial loss
--> Attempted to cover this up by raising taxes on the wool crop
-War overall promoted nationalism for both countries
-Increased instability in the food supply and also in cultural beliefs like the Code of Chivarly

Who was Joan of Arc?
A French peasant girl who had a vision and had great military leadership that revived French fortunes
How does Joan explain the way that she chose to answer the interrogators' questions and her decisions about clothing and actions in battle?
-Joan chose to answer the interrogators with complete honesty and transparency.
-She also explains how her clothing isn't a factor, and she hadn't take advice from any living man.
--> She said everything she had done was at Our Lord's command. If she were ordered to take a different dress from the Lord, she would of done so.
Thinking about the structures of power and authority in the 15th century France, how do you believe the interrogators would have regarded Joan's answers?
The interrogators most likely believed that Joan was being a heretic. They didn't believe what she was telling them, and instead using God's name to attempt to save herself.
