C.I.A triad expansion
A more comprehensive list of critical characteristics including privacy, identification, authentication, authorization, and accountability.
Confidentiality
The practice of limiting access to information for only those who need it and preventing access to those who do not.
Information classification
A measure to protect confidentiality where data is labeled according to sensitivity, such as public, private, or internal, to ensure handling rules match the risk level.
Secure data / document storage
A measure to protect confidentiality where physical files are locked away and digital data is stored on protected servers or databases with access controls.
Application of security policies
Policies that define rules for handling information, such as passwords, access permissions, and sharing restrictions, to create a consistent framework for employees to follow.
