how were chinampas built?

  • people would come with canoes and use wooden rods to determine the sections that were less deep

  • they would create dense layers of vegetation on the rods to create a solid base

  • they would add mud and stopped when the island was 30cm off water

  • would use plants and willows for their roots

  • boom voilà, agriculture on there every year
