What are the four types of networks mentioned in the notes?
Personal Area Network (PAN), Local Area Network (LAN), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), Wide Area Network (WAN).
What is a Local Area Network (LAN) and its wireless counterpart?
LAN connects workstations and peripheral devices in close proximity; WLAN is the wireless version, also known as Wi-Fi.
What is a Star Topology?
A network topology that consists of a central computer (the host) and a series of nodes connected to it.
What are the advantages of a Star Topology?
Centralized control makes detecting problems easier; nodes can be added easily; effective for handling short bursts of traffic.
What is the major disadvantage of a Ring Topology?
Failure of a single node disrupts the entire network.
What does TCP/IP stand for?
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol.
What is the primary function of the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)?
Most Internet applications use TCP in conjunction with IP for data communication.
What does an IP address represent?
A unique number that identifies where computers are located on the network.
What are the three generations of Web applications?
Web 1.0 (Readable) - Static Content, Web 2.0 (Writable) - Dynamic Content, Web 3.0 (Executable) - Semantic Web.
What is the focus of Web 3.0?
To develop intelligent web applications using artificial intelligence technologies that tailor online content to user preferences.
What is the primary goal of the Internet of Things (IoT)?
To connect physical objects to the internet, allowing them to exchange data with each other and their manufacturers.
What is the purpose of the Domain Name System (DNS)?
To provide unique identifiers (domain names) for web pages and convert them into IP addresses.
What is disintermediation in e-commerce?
The elimination of intermediate organizations between the producer and the consumer.
What does C2C stand for in e-commerce?
Consumer-to-Consumer, referring to transactions between users.
Define E-commerce.
The buying and selling of goods and services over the Internet.
What are the key features of Web 2.0?
Interactivity, social participation, and user-generated content.
What can online shopping provide for consumers, boosting e-commerce growth?
The ability to design personalized products.
