anatomical position
refers to a person standing face forward, arms at the side with palms forward.

proximal or distal
it is used only when describing the upper extremities or arms and lower extremities or legs.
proximal - closer to trunk
distal - away from trunk
eg: ankle is distal to the knee
Medial or Lateral
medial - closer to center
lateral - away from center
eg: thumb is lateral to other fingers in anatomical position
Ventral / anterior
