Archduke of Austria-Hungary assassinated by a Serbian in 1914. His murder was one of the causes of WWI.
Central Powers
Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and Ottoman Empire.

World War I alliance of Britian, France, and Russia, and later joined by Italy and the United States.
Western Front
In WWI, the border of France, Germany and Belgium where the armies of the Allies and the Central Powers battled each other.
Eastern Front
In WWI, the area in Russia where the armies of the Allies and the Central Powers battled each other.
Trench Warfare
A type of fighting in which both sides dig trenches and attempt to attack the enemy's trenches
No Mans Land
Territory between enemy trenches. It was very dangerous.

Zimmermann telegram
In 1917, a telegram was sent from Germany to Mexico and stated that if Mexico would declare war on the U.S., Germany would help them reclaim lost territories.

Russian Revolution and Impact on WWI
The Russian's over threw their Czar. The new temporary government said they would keep fighting. This let President Wilson say the Allies were fighting for Democracy. After though, the Russian government "Dropped Out" which basically means they're not signing a peace treaty or going to keep fighting. The Germans kept fighting the Russians though, so dropping out was no good. The Russians had to sign a worst treaty than the one the Germans offered before to make peace. After the treaty, the Germans could move most of their troops to the Western Front to battle France and Britain.

A state of peace agreed to between enemies so they can discuss peace terms.

Fourteen Points
A plan created by President Wilson that hoped to establish peace, stop Imperialism, and end secret alliances. It created new countries and formed the League of Nations. It hoped to bring "Peace without Victory"
League of Nations
An organization of most nations formed after WWI to promote to help contras workout their problems instead of going to war. It solved very few disputes, and lacked power leading up to WWII.
Treaty of Versailles
Created by the leaders victorious allies Nations: France, Britain, US, and signed by Germany to help stop WWI. The treaty:
Did not allow Germany to have an Army over 100,000 men, no heavy artillery, did not let them have a Navy over 6 ships, and could have no Air force or Submarines.
