Interproject Dependencies
Occur when you need the completed deliverables from another project in order to work on the current project
Interproject Resource Contention
Occurs when the same resources are working on multiple projects or tasks.
Organization Breakdown Structure (OBD)
Depicts departments, work units, or teams (rather than individuals)
Resource Breakdown Structure (RBS)
Depicts the work of the project according to the type of resources needed.
Responsibility Assignment Matrix (RAM)
Maps WBS Elements to the required resources
RACI Chart
Depicts types of resources and their responsibility level.
What does “R” mean in the RACI Chart?
Responsible for performing the work.
What does “A” mean in the RACI Chart?
Accountable, the one who is responsible for producing the deliverable or work package and approves or signs off on the work.
What does “C” mean in the RACI Chart?
Consulted, someone who has input to the work or decisions.
What does “I” mean in the RACI Chart?
Informed, someone who must be informed of the decisions or results.
What are the stages of Team Development?
Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, Adjourning.
Forming Stage
The beginning of team formation, when all the members are brought together, introduced, and told the objectives of the project
Storming Stage
Where the action begins. Team members become confrontational with each other as they begin vying for position and control.
Norming Stage
The stage where things begin to calm down. Team members know each other well, comfortable with their positions in the team, and begin to deal with project problems.
Performing Stage
The stage where the team is productive and effective. The level of trust is high.
Adjourning Stage
The stage where the team breaks up after the work is completed, and team members return to their functional managers and teams.
Team Building
Set of activities or exercises designed to get diverse groups of people to work together.
Trust Building
The most important thing a PM can do to ensure a top-performing team.
Conflict
Incompatibility of desires, needs, or goals
Smoothing Technique
A temporary way to resolve conflict. In this technique, the areas of agreement are emphasized over the areas of difference, so the real issue stays buried.
Focusing Technique
A technique where one person forces a solution on the other parties. Although this is a permanent solution, it isn’t necessarily the best solution.
Compromising Technique
Is a technique that is achieved when each of the parties involved in the conflict gives up something to reach a solution.
Confronting Technique
Also known as problem-solving and is the best way to resolve conflict.
Avoiding Technique
Sometimes known as withdrawal, never results in solution. This occurs when one of the parties gets up and leaves and refuses to discuss the conflict.
Negotiating Technique
A technique that involves both parties communicating, listening, and asking questions.
Project Kick-Off
A meeting that is generally held after the project charter is signed. All team members may not be assigned at this point.
