Enthalpy change definition
Enthalpy Change = heat change of constant temperature
Occurs under standard conditions
Temp = 298K
Pressure = 100kPa
Formula for Enthalpy
q = mcΔT
q = heat lost or gained (J)
m = mass of solution/water (g)
c = specific heat capacity of water, 4.18 (Jg^-1K^-1)
ΔT = Temperature change
Standard Enthalpy of combustion
(ΔcH^θ) when 1 mole of a stub stance is completely burned by oxygen under standard conditions with all substances in their standard state.
Steps to solving
1) calculate heat change (q)
2) convert to KJ by /1000
3) calculate number of moles (Mass/Mr)
4) calculate per mole (KJ/moles)
